Helpful Fitness Apps
When it comes to eating right, and exercising it can be a little frustrating at times, especially when we are trying to figure out exactly how many calories, or if you’re counting macros- proteins, carbs, and fats- are in our foods. When we want to pick up running, we want to know how many miles we are running each day to work toward a certain goal such as training for a 5K or marathon, but how can we make this really easy without having to write down every single food item by hand, calculating every calorie/macro-nutrient, or wearing all kinds of mile tracker devices to record our miles? Why not just download these two apps: My Fitness Pal and Map My Run! They are FREE, easy to use, and great tools to use while you work toward your fitness goals! Keep on reading to find out why I love both of these apps!
Starting with My Fitness Pal, this app is perfect for calculating out your daily calories or if you are doing “If It Fits Your Macros”, it’s the best to use! I use this app all the time on my iPhone. It tells me exactly what’s in each food item, and what each portion size is which makes it easy to keep track of my daily macros without me having to do all the work by hand! Even if you don’t count calories or macros, it’s a good way to find out just how much you are eating in a day which gives you a basic outline on what you can improve on such as adding in more veggies,
and less processed foods. Try logging all the foods you’d normally eat in a day and track it using this app. Another great part about using the My Fitness Pal app is it even has food items from fast food places, and restaurants! It’s perfect to use before going out to eat so you can make healthier choices based on what you’re in the mood for! I love using it for when I go out to
lunch with my friends or boyfriend, such as chickfila! My Fitness Pal also lets you keep track of exercises you do- outside of running. As we know, nutrition and exercise come hand in hand, and if you love to run, or just
starting out like me, then Map My Run is the best way to go!
Furthermore, Map My Run is a great app to use to keep track of your miles for the week. I discovered this app this past year and I love it! It’s stayed on my phone ever since, and although I recently picked running back up, my last session that I ran was still on my phone so I could see where my starting point was. I love this app because not only does it track your miles, but you don’t have to worry about looking at the screen since it will tell you how many minutes it took you to reach a mile WHILE you are still running, and you can still listen to music while doing so! Any playlist you have set in your phone you can play while you are out for your run. Talk about total motivation! This app is also FREE. At the end of each run, you can see the split time between your miles, a map of the route you ran, and how long it took you. It logs each run into the app so you can see your progress increasing as you go along.
Of course there are many similar apps out there like these two I mentioned above, but these are the two apps that I have found useful for myself! They really help me reach my own goals, and I bet they can help you, too! If you haven’t tried them yet, I highly recommend them! They are great for starting a new plan for nutrition or a new fitness routine, and plus, you can never go wrong with FREE.
